What is Google bard can it compete with chat GPT and what does it all mean for you I'm covering all this and more in this complete googlebard overview . I'm actually an artificially intelligent chat bot anyway let's jump into this new Google AI system .
What is Google bard ?
Let's go so first things first what is Google bard. Bard is an experimental conversational AI similar to chat GPT but powered by Lambda now for some important history if you're wondering what Lambda is you can watch that whole video by clicking right up here then come back to this article.
History of Lambda
Lambda is Google's language model for dialogue applications and up until now this has been a closed beta technology meaning googlers have been using the AI Test Kitchen to work with Lambda and pinpoint areas of improvement they purposefully Never released Lambda to the world because Google really wants to ensure accuracy and appropriate non-biased conversational learning is taking place so back at Google I O 2022 about a year ago Google introduced us to Lambda 2 that at the time was the latest version of this conversational AI again not released to the public but we got a glimpse of some of the cool capabilities and that brings us to present day and you guessed it the release of open ai's chat gbt which has created quite the stir to say the least in fact I did a whole video on chat gbt which you can watch via the link in the description below but but it has really pushed Google to release a conversational AI of their own to the public especially since this new chat gbt and Bing integration hence what this whole article is about Google bard .
What can Bard do
So Google announced Bard at their Live from Paris event about a month ago now and they went over a few examples of what google bard can do one of their examples was a prompt asking what things should be considered when buying a new car for my family now with some follow-up questions like pros and cons about buying electric and even asking Bard to help plan a road trip where Bard responds with some great Scenic spots along the way so all in all it seems pretty similar to what you can experience with Chachi BT but Google did mention that Bard will at least for now use less computing power since they're initially releasing it with a lightweight version of Lambda something else to keep in mind is that you're dealing with the vast knowledge base of the entirety of data that's ever been collected by Google so Bard really has the potential to be more powerful than its competitors.
NORA
Google spoke about Nora or no one right answer at their Live from Paris event so think of when you ask questions that could have nuanced answers specifically maybe something like an an opinion or a preference Google will now embed this generative AI technology directly into your search results having this built right into your Google app is huge and just one reason why I don't think Google has anything to worry about when it comes to this quote-unquote AI technology race .
Google bard thoughts and testing
So this is all to say that Google is not rushing this technology out and despite what you may hear they are not behind anybody when it comes to conversational AI in fact they've been sitting on this technology for years and purposefully not putting it into the hands of the public so it may be one of those things where it's considered an arms race in conversational AI with chat GPT coming out first and publicly available that's really one of the major differences here is that Chachi BT was one of the first conversational AI that really the public could get their hands on and tangibly use my point being.
Google knows exactly what they are doing in fact they are arguably the best at doing it and they're really trying to be responsible with this technology they announced Google barred a couple of months ago and said it would be publicly available in the coming weeks and here we still wait and this is done purposefully Google does not want to put something out that has the potential to be detrimental into the hands of the public so is it an arms race yes but did the tortoise beat the hair spoiler alert yes being the first doesn't equate to being the best nor does it mean being the most responsible with this Tech just because we can do something doesn't mean we should you feel me so how do you test Google bard as of the publication of this article you can apply to be a Google beta tester but this still doesn't mean you'll get picked to test Bard they've got a strict vetting process.
